Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Treatment
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a condition recognized by the CDC, characterized by extreme tiredness or fatigue that doesn’t improve with sleep.
Common Misdiagnosis
Many chronic fatigue doctors misdiagnose CFS as depression, leading to the use of anti-depressants that merely mask symptoms.
Underlying Causes
CFS is often linked to multiple health conditions and can stem from issues with the body’s energy-production system. Proper diagnosis requires identifying these underlying causes.
Our Approach
At our chronic fatigue treatment center in Tampa Bay, we specialize in accurately diagnosing and treating CFS. Our three decades of experience have shown that correctly identifying the root causes is essential for effective treatment. This approach allows patients to regain their energy and enjoy life.

Other Conditions That Cause Fatigue
Chronic fatigue syndrome can be a symptom of other health conditions such as:
Infections and Viruses
Lyme Disease – can cause the same exact symptoms as CFS.
Mononucleosis – Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. Constant fatigue is common in people with this virus.
Stealth Pathogens – Microorganisms, bacteria, mold, and viruses, significantly impact energy levels.
Hormonal and Endocrine Issues
Thyroid Issues – thyroid hormone imbalances can lead to constant fatigue. It also creates weight gain.
Hormone Imbalance – occurs in women in perimenopause or menopause. One of the first clues is feeling fatigued.
Adrenal Fatigue – the adrenal glands are key for energy production. Adrenal glands that are fatigued lead to general tiredness and lethargy. In severe cases, a person becomes exhausted all the time.
Autoimmune and Chronic Diseases
Multiple Sclerosis – affects the central nervous system. It can lead to severe fatigue.
Lupus – is a chronic autoimmune disease. The body’s immune system attacks its own tissues. This can cause severe exhaustion to occur.
Fibromyalgia – causes pain & poor-quality sleep leading to exhaustion.
Other Issues
Mitochondrial Dysfunction – Mitochondria are energy production powerhouses of the cells. If they are not functioning properly, the body cannot make adequate energy, resulting in fatigue.
Chronic Inflammation – Continual low levels of inflammation can cause fatigue and tiredness.
Anemia – Women are prone to anemia during their menstrual years. Red blood cells that carry oxygen become depleted during blood loss. This can lead to feelings of exhaustion.
10 Common Symptoms of Chronic Fatigue
- fatigue that last 6+ months
- extreme exhaustion after physical or mental exercise
- headaches
- muscle ache
- attention & memory loss problems
- joint pain
- sore throat
- tender lymph nodes
- sleep that is not refreshing
- dizziness that worsens when moving from lying down or sitting to standing
Chronic Fatigue is Misdiagnosed
The CDC states that 90 percent of people with CFS have not been diagnosed. This is because there isn’t a simple test for the condition. This leaves most people not diagnosed. As a result, a patient may be told they have any number of diseases such as:
- Depression
- Lyme disease
- Lupus
- Fibromyalgia
- Mononucleosis
- Hypothyroidism
