Article Summary
Plaquex therapy is a cutting-edge, natural treatment that uses a special formula to dissolve plaque buildup in your arteries, improving blood flow and reducing the risk of heart disease. It can also improve your LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing your beneficial HDL cholesterol levels. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of plaquex therapy and explain how this innovative treatment can help you improve your cardiovascular health and help other conditions as well.
What is Plaquex Therapy®?
Plaquex Therapy consists of a compounded medicine containing polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine (PC). It is administered intravenously to help clear our plaque deposits, improve organ function (including liver and kidneys), and improve blood flow properties, making blood flow easier without blood thinners. It also affects important enzymes related to blood lipids, which results in lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while increasing HDL cholesterol.
The Importance of Phosphatidylcholine (PC)
Phosphatidylcholine (PC), the main constituent in Plaquex Therapy, makes up all cellular membranes in the body and is the transport vehicle for cholesterol, such as HDL and LDL. Cell membranes consist of a double layer of PC molecules. PC has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, can lower chronic inflammation, stimulate the body’s natural healing and repair processes, and is critical to recovering from many chronic health conditions.

As we age, the PC in the cell membranes becomes damaged by toxins, detergents, free radicals, heavy metals, smoking, hypertension, high blood sugar, and high levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. The body can no longer produce enough PC to repair this damage, leading to cardiovascular disease with plaque deposits in the blood vessels, liver damage, kidney damage, and brain damage.
IV Plaquex Therapy supplies the body with an abundance of PC that it can use for cellular membrane repairs, improvements to circulation, and as a system-wide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
What is Plaquex Therapy Used For?
Plaquex therapy restores cell membrane integrity and function, normalizing cell metabolism. This, in turn, helps to clear out plaque deposits and improve the function of all organs, including the liver and kidneys. It also improves the blood flow properties so blood can flow more easily without blood thinners. It also affects essential enzymes involved with blood lipids. It thereby reduces LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increases HDL cholesterol.
Plaquex therapy is also used to treat Atherosclerosis and is given to patients suffering from angina pectoris whose coronary arteries contain plaque deposits, but also in patients with carotid artery plaque and peripheral plaque in the legs, causing claudication pain when walking. It is also used to improve the function of the liver and kidneys, skin texture, and gut lining.
How is Plaquex Therapy Administered?
Plaquex Therapy is administered intravenously over 90 minutes. A minimum of 20-40 Plaquex therapy infusions is suggested. In severe cases of heart disease (Bypass and Angioplasty candidates), up to 45 or more treatments with Plaquex therapy may be required. Plaquex Therapy can be alternated with classical Chelation treatments.
Is Plaquex Therapy Effective?
Yes, Plaquex therapy can be very effective for many health conditions, such as Atherosclerosis, liver disease, kidney disease, and skin health. It improves blood flow properties and enhances circulation. It affects essential enzymes involved with blood lipids, reducing LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and increasing HDL cholesterol. It is also beneficial to processes such as metabolism and nerve signaling.
The Plaquex® Therapy Formula has a long history of practical use, spanning over 70 years in about one-fourth of the world’s countries. It has been featured in over 126 clinical studies involving over 8,300 patients in the past 38 years.
Furthermore, phosphatidylcholine is well-established in the medical literature for its essential role in the formation and repair of cellular membranes and contributions to overall cellular health. It also plays a significant role in metabolism, nerve signaling, and liver function.

Effects of Plaquex Therapy
Plaquex therapy aids in removing plaque buildup and enhances blood circulation, allowing blood to flow more smoothly without blood thinners. It also influences key enzymes related to blood fats, lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides while raising HDL cholesterol. Additionally, it repairs cell membrane structure and function, leading to the normalization of cell metabolism.
Why Consider Plaquex Therapy?
As we get older, our body’s repair systems don’t work as well because we can’t produce enough of a substance called phosphatidylcholine. This makes our cell membranes less flexible, causing enzymes, electrolyte channels, and receptors to malfunction. As a result, our blood vessels can get damaged, leading to scar tissue, plaque buildup, and even blood clots.
IV Plaquex therapy is essential for creating and repairing our body’s membranes. The proper functioning of all cells and their smaller parts relies on having a healthy phosphatidylcholine structure.
What Causes Damage to Cellular Membranes:
- Cell membranes are damaged by
- Free radicals
- Toxic substances
- Heavy metals
- Detergents
- Mechanical means (catheters or stents)
- Stress
- Elevated blood pressure levels
- Elevated stress hormones (cortisol, aldosterone, and adrenalin)
- High blood sugar
- High insulin levels
- Smoking
- Allergies
- Chronic Inflammation
- Autoimmune Issues
- Electromagnetic radiation
Preparing for Plaquex Therapy
Before the first Plaquex therapy treatment, a check-up is usually done by the treating physician, who will discuss your current use of medications such as Beta-Blockers, Nitroglycerin and supplements, diet, and exercise with you. Blood samples will be taken to determine important serum parameters of organ function, which will be monitored during your Plaquex treatments.
Is Plaquex Therapy a Chelation?
The plaque that blocks arteries, known as atherosclerotic plaque, is primarily composed of two constituents: cholesterol and calcium. While chelation therapy targets calcium, Plaquex therapy targets the cholesterol component, specifically the LDL or “bad” cholesterol that causes artery blockages.
Does Chelation Unclog Arteries?
Chelation therapy is an alternative therapy that has been suggested as a safe, relatively inexpensive, non-surgical method of restoring blood flow in atherosclerotic vessels. The therapy is very low risk compared to conventional surgical alternatives and is often explored by those seeking out alternatives. While conventional medicine does not endorse its use over standard-of-care treatments like bypass surgery, stents, etc., it has been studied and is worth exploring. We’ve seen patients do very well with chelation therapy for cardiovascular health, especially when patients commit to improving their diet and lifestyle and let us help them resolve all their chronic health issues.
A formal study called the TACT clinical trial was a randomized controlled trial that investigated the effect of disodium EDTA chelation therapy on cardiovascular events in patients with a history of myocardial infarction (MI). Please note that these patients had all suffered a significant event already, and while chelation therapy was still shown to be beneficial, we like to see patients take a proactive approach and use chelation proactively before an event occurs.
The trial enrolled 1,708 patients who were randomly assigned to receive either chelation therapy or placebo. Chelation therapy consisted of 40 infusions of a solution containing disodium EDTA, ascorbate, B vitamins, and other components.
The trial’s primary endpoint (a specific event or outcome that researchers measure to assess the effectiveness of a treatment) was a composite of total mortality, recurrent MI, stroke, coronary revascularization, or hospitalization for angina. The trial found that chelation therapy reduced the risk of the primary endpoint by 18% (hazard ratio 0.82, 95% confidence interval 0.69 to 0.99).
The TACT trial was the first large randomized controlled trial to investigate the effect of chelation therapy on cardiovascular events in patients with a history of MI. The trial results suggest that chelation therapy may reduce the risk of some cardiovascular events.
The Importance of Plaquex Maintenance Therapy
As Plaquex therapy does not treat the underlying cause of plaque deposits, it is recommended that you work with our natural health practitioners to identify the underlying cause of your issue and follow their advice to prevent a recurrence. It is highly recommended that you follow up with our doctors regularly to ensure you are stable and your lab markers maintain an ideal range. For some cases, we may recommend a maintenance program of 10 –12 treatments yearly. You should also take Plaquex Oral soft gels to help keep the results achieved by the infusions. Your ongoing lifestyle (smoking, drinking, healthy diet) and your current health conditions will also play a part in the results obtained and whether you need future maintenance regimens.

Learn More about Other Plaquex Applications
Take a deep dive and learn more about the benefits of Plaquex.
Plaquex Therapy for Atherosclerosis
Plaquex is widely known for treating Atherosclerosis. It also reduces LDL Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels while increasing HDL Cholesterol levels.
Plaquex transforms cholesterol, including plaque deposits, enabling HDL to take it up and remove it from vascular walls, and eliminate it through the liver.
Plaquex Therapy for Liver Damage
Plaquex is a treatment used for liver damage and has been studied in over 126 clinical studies involving over 8,300 patients in the past 38 years.
Liver damage always involves cell membrane damage, and Plaquex can help restore cell membranes and cell function by providing exogenous phosphatidylcholine (PC).
Studies have shown that PC can prevent and reduce liver damage caused by carbon tetrachloride, ethanol, acetaminophen, and indomethacin. PC has also been shown to reduce fatty deposits in the liver and prevent or postpone liver cirrhosis.
Clinical trials have demonstrated that Plaquex can improve liver function and accelerate recovery in patients with toxic liver damage, fatty liver, acute and chronic viral hepatitis, cirrhosis of the liver, and conditions associated with changes in bile composition.
Patients who received Plaquex treatment experienced earlier improvement of symptoms and faster recovery times than those who did not.
Plaquex Therapy for Kidney Health or Damage
Kidney disease can lead to problems with filtering waste and excess bodily fluids. Plaquex is thought to work by improving the health of the cell membranes in the kidneys, which can help the kidneys work better.
Studies have shown that Plaquex can help people with different types of kidney disease. For example, in one study, people with glomerulonephritis and nephrotic syndrome (a type of kidney disease) treated with Plaquex improved their symptoms, such as reduced swelling and increased protein levels called albumin in their blood.
In another study, Plaquex helped people with renal insufficiency (when the kidneys aren’t working as well as they should) by improving their kidney function and reducing their cholesterol levels.
Plaquex may also be helpful for people on chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), a type of dialysis that can be done at home. Plaquex may improve the ability of the dialysis fluid to remove waste products from the body.
Finally, Plaquex may be useful for pregnant women with preeclampsia, which can affect the health of the mother and baby. Plaquex may help reduce symptoms of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy and improve the health of the mother’s liver and kidneys.
Plaquex positively affects kidney function and is a helpful treatment option for people with kidney disease.
Plaquex Therapy for Gut Health
Plaquex contains phosphatidylcholine, which can form a protective layer on the stomach lining and help protect it from damage caused by stomach acid and certain pain medications like NSAIDs. This is important because NSAIDs can cause irritation, damage the stomach lining, and decrease the natural protective substances in the stomach.
Plaquex can help repair this protective layer and increase the production of natural protective substances, reducing the risk of damage to the stomach lining caused by NSAIDs.
Human studies found that Plaquex can help reduce the damage to the stomach lining caused by certain pain medications. In studies with rats, it was shown that Plaquex was effective at reducing the formation of ulcers caused by NSAIDs.
Plaquex Therapy for Psoriasis and Neurodermitis
Research has shown that taking phosphatidylcholine (PC), one of the main ingredients in Plaquex, can improve symptoms of psoriasis, neurodermatitis, and seborrheic eczema.
Studies conducted since 1983 have combined PC with PUVA radiation, sea-salt baths, and sunlight exposure to enhance the treatment process. The authors of these studies have found that using PC supplements in addition to traditional treatments can lead to an earlier onset and complete remission of skin issues, a reduced number of required treatment sessions, and a lower chance of recurrence. Some patients saw improvements in symptoms within two to three months, with skin issues disappearing entirely in some cases after four months of treatment.
Learn about the History of Plaquex Therapy
The Plaquex® Formula has a long history of use, spanning over 70 years and in about one-fourth of the world’s countries. Developed initially to dissolve fatty embolisms during and after trauma surgery, it has since been found to have many applications, including treating liver and kidney disease.
In the 1990s, the use of the Plaquex® Formula shifted to treating plaque deposits, often in combination with EDTA chelation infusions. The treatment proved so effective that it has become a treatment in its own right, with hundreds of doctors in the US and worldwide using Plaquex and treating tens of thousands of patients.
Dr. Sam Baxas, one of the pioneers of Plaquex therapy, stumbled upon the treatment when his wife, Heidi, developed chest pains and underwent multiple balloon angioplasties without long-term success. After discovering Plaquex therapy and administering it to his wife, her chest pains disappeared and did not return with regular maintenance therapy. Dr. Sam began treating other patients with similar success rates, and this amazing discovery spread quickly.
Not only does the Plaquex® Formula effectively remove fatty and hardened plaque from blood vessels, but it also has applications for general anti-aging purposes. Many doctors have observed their patients looking younger and healthier after about 20 treatments. Additionally, the Plaquex® Formula can protect the stomach lining from NSAID damage and has been used to treat psoriasis patients.
Today, Dr. Sam’s daughters, Anita Baxas, MD, and Jacky Baxas, spread the knowledge of Plaquex to doctors and patients, ensuring that this revolutionary treatment continues to provide relief and improved health for those in need.
